10 Healthy New Year Resolutions for Men to Make in 2023

With the new year approaching, it’s time to sit down and make new year’s resolutions. Gone are the days when men remained laid-back about their health issues. With increased health awareness, it is more important than ever for men to make New Year’s resolutions that will keep them healthy and fit throughout the year.

10 Healthy New Year Resolutions for Men

  • Create a sleep routine for better sleep: Are you always feeling fatigued at the end of the day? It’s time for some serious thinking about your sleeping pattern. Research has shown that a solid 6-8 hours of sleep every night is required to maintain a healthy mind and body. Simple measures like switching off your TV and mobile phones earlier, investing in a comfortable pillow, and using a good eye mask to hinder unwanted light go a long way in helping you fall asleep easily. Starting this year onwards, commit to following a healthier sleep routine and see yourself rise up and shine the next morning!
  • Cut down on alcohol consumption: For some men, drinking is synonymous with having fun. However, everyone is well aware of the negative effects of consuming alcohol too often. Cutting down on alcohol can help improve your mood, skin, sleep, and immune system. Set a reasonable goal to limit your drinking and track your progress. Let this new year be a time for you to sober down.
  • Quit smoking: Cigarettes are very harmful for your health, especially your lungs. Not only is the smoker at risk, but anyone exposed to the smoke is also harmed, particularly pregnant women. To lead healthy life, choose to quit smoking before it causes the slow death of you and your loved ones.
  • Undergo annual health screenings: Men need to prioritize their health and get themselves screened annually. Some of the disease conditions that affect men include obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Early diagnosis of a disease can help with better treatment plans and higher recovery rates.
  • Exercise your brain: Exercising your brain is as important as maintaining your physical health. To prevent your cognitive abilities from declining with advancing age, you should make it a point to engage in brain-activation games and puzzles like Sudoku.
  • Take the stairs: Studies show that climbing stairs instead of taking a lift gives twice the energy boost when compared to having half a cup of coffee.  Climbing stairs is good for your heart and improves muscle strength, thereby maintaining healthy bones and joints. If done diligently, it is also a sure-fire way to burn calories faster.
  • Practice yoga regularly: Team up with your partner or practice yoga solo to reap evident health benefits. Yoga is one of the best forms of exercise. It can help you relax, calm your mind, and strengthen your muscles.
  • Stay hydrated:  Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. By the time you feel thirsty, you’re already slightly dehydrated. Men should drink 3-4 liters of water and other fluids per day. Drinking plenty of water promotes healthy skin and keeps constipation at bay.
  • Follow a healthy diet plan: An ideal diet is one that is packed with wholesome fiber and grains, essential nutrients, and plenty of greens. Cut down on carbs and include more green, leafy vegetables in your diet.
  • Regularly add citrus fruits to your grocery list: Winter is the time when more citrus fruits are available in the market. Grapefruit and oranges are packed with vitamin C, which is beneficial for collagen production. Citrus fruits have a direct effect on the skin, making it supple and wrinkle-free. It is recommended to add seasonal fruits to your diet as they are high in nutrients, boost immunity, and keep infections at bay.

Keeping good health should be the priority for men in this new year. Let’s welcome the forthcoming year by including these healthy New Year’s resolutions!
